On Christmas Eve 2024, I paid what would turn out to be my last visit to Grampie. My dad (aka Uncle Jimmy) warned me that his health was declining and he might not be up for much of a visit, we might just pop in, say hello, and leave him be. He didn’t even know we were coming, but we knocked on the door and he shouted “Come in if you’re good looking!” ………..so we came in… and we found him in a great mood, sharp as a tack, ready to tell some of his “greatest hits” stories. I just.. had a feeling.. so I took out my phone and took some audio recordings and one video of him telling these stories. At the end of the visit, we hugged goodbye and he sent us off with another classic catchphrase: “come back again when you can’t stay so long!”
He was gone before I had a chance to come back again for any amount of time. But I have these stories, and now you do too.
